How does virutal counselling work?Virtual counselling is a way to get the support you need, safely while in the comfort of your own home. At the TWC, we offer telephone or video sessions- the choice is yours! If you choose video sessions, we will meet through a secure video platform called Doxy. Doxy works similarly to google meets or zoom, but is PHIPA compliant, offering end-end encryption to ensure that we have complete privacy. In order to connect to Doxy, your therapist will send you a link to connect to their private virtual waiting room. You will need a computer, laptop, tablet or phone with video and audio capabilities. Find a comfortable, quiet place and connect when you are ready.
-
When are appointments available? At the TWC we offer a range of availability including daytime, evening and weekend appointments. Appointments vary by therapist and it is best to connect with each therapist directly for their availability.
-
How long are sessions? Most sessions run 50 minutes in length. Longer sessions may be available for an additional fee.
-
What fees are associated with counselling?Session fees vary by therapist, please check with your therapist for their individual service fees. As registered social workers, many Insurance companies will cover a portion of your session fee. We suggest that you check-in with your insurance provider to see if MSW (Master Social Worker) services are covered. Also, do keep receipts as counselling sessions are considered medical expenses and are tax deductible.
-
What should I expect during my initial session? We at the TWC, will strive to provide a calm, safe and supportive environment to begin reviewing a brief life history, exploring your current concerns and outlining your therapy goals. We will work with you to create a space in which you feel seen, heard and valued so that you are free to engage in counselling with no fear of judgement or criticism.
-
How often will we meet? How often you will meet with your therapist is completely unique to you. Oftentimes, people will choose to meet weekly until they are comfortable with the level of progress that is being made. Your therapist will review your goals with you during your first session and together, you will decide what works best for you.
-
How do I book a session? To book your first session, contact the therapist that you would like to work with via email or by telephone. Each therapist at the TWC provides a brief introductory phone-call to begin the process. Once booked, you will receive a link to join our pratice through the Jane App. All consents, forms, invoices and appointment details can be found in your secure Jane account.

What is the SPACE Program? The Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions Program was developed at Yale University by Dr. Eli Lebowitz to address the needs of children with anxiety who were not responding to traditional forms of treatment (medication and/or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). This is a unique treatment as it is done with the parents directly, without the child attending the sessions. Research has shown that just the parents attending sessions and adjusting their responses and behaviors is just as effective as the child attending counselling directly.
